FAQ -- Recycling rechargeable batteries.

Overview | FAQ

I haven't used my down low glow in about a year. Will they work if i charge them up now?

If your DLG battery has been sitting unused for 1 year, there is a small chance it will have have gone stale. But you can check this easily by charging your DLG fully, and seeing what kind of glow-time you're getting. Compare the numbers you're getting to the glow times we have spec'ed for a new battery, and you'll know whether there's been any damage to your battery.

Can I use the Down Low Glow on a wheelchair powered by its own 12 volt battery? Or do I need to use your battery?

Yes, you can use the Down Low Glow light tubes on your wheelchair / electric scooter / electric bike, if it's powered by a 12 volt battery. You do not need to use the rechargeable battery provided with the complete Down Low Glow system.

There are two considerations in fitting the DLG to your vehicle: wiring it to your 12V battery, and dialing in the physical fit.

How long does the Down Low Glow battery last?

The Down Low Glow battery will last about 3 hours, 40 minutes on a dual tube system, and 7+ hours on a single tube system.

The rechargeable NiMh battery is 1 pound light and can be recharged approximately 500-1000 times. That's up to 20000 hours of glow-time with a single tube system!

How do I charge my Down Low Glow battery?

There are two options: Fast Charger and Trickle charger.

The Fast charger takes about 2-3 hours and has a green led that tells you when charging is complete.

The trickle charger takes about 10-12 hours, and gets warm to the touch when charging is complete.

Is there a difference between the battery used in the single tube and dual tube systems?

No. Both the single tube and dual tube DLG systems have the same battery. The battery lasts longer on a single tube system, because it uses less juice than a dual tube system.
