Tim McClain and his brother Greg competed a cross country trip from California to Florida in 2005. While they did not ride solely at night, they wanted the flexibility to put on some miles in the early morning hours. And they wanted the reassurance that they'd be safe if they got caught riding after sunset.

With so much visibility on their recumbents, riding at night wasn't something to fear. Plus, they got the rush of cruising like UFO's across the highways of the Southwest.
