Habits of Wellness

The “New England Dairy & Food Council Fuel Up to Play 60″ grant helped us purchase a stationary bicycle blender. During our kick off event, we made over 400 fruit yogurts smoothies. Students signed a pledge to eat well and be active on a daily basis. It is great to see students taking action for their own health by being physically active and learning to taste and appreciate healthy foods through the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. The earlier we can instill habits of wellness, the easier it will be for students to maintain them in the future. Students were really excited to use the blender and drink their creations.

Fender Blender Bike Blenders

Stir up a scene at your event! Use your bike blender to produce a smoothie booth at a Farmers market or festival.  It’s self-contained, and easy to run with one or two people. Sell smoothies to generate income at your event, or give them away or as a thank you or “Hello.”

Students will watch the mechanics of this unique contraption in amazement, and will want to get on and make a smoothie for their peers. It’s a great teaching tool: lead lessons about physics, energy conservation, nutrition, health, and fitness.

We offer three models of bike blenders to fit your needs: Fender Blender Pro, Fender Blender Universale, and Fender Blender Xtracycle.

A proper smoothie booth will need a table and about 10′ x 6′ space for the bike and  crowd. Ingredients will cost between $0.25-1.00 per serving, depending on serving size. Since it doesn’t require electrical power you can easily make a smoothie stand anywhere–indoors or out.

Pedal Powered Spin Art

This activity is compatible with any Fender Blender.

Leave your attendees with a lasting memory from your event! Spin Art is a great activity for the smallest kids. Kids 10+ enjoy powering the experience for others, kids even younger can be the artiste. Spin Art is colorful, creative, peaceful, and inspiring. The process of making spin art is visually stimulating, and people often stick around to watch their friends take a turn. Spin Art is the easiest of our activities to pedal in terms of physical exertion and always gets an audience.

It’s quick to set up and easy to do; all you need in addition are paint, paper, and a table for drying! Stamp your logo on the blank paper (or letterhead). Use the artwork to decorate the event, or save it for projects like greeting cards.

Spin Art is not just for kids; adults are equally excited to see the Pedal Powered version of this classic activity.

Ice Cream Bike

The power of the Fender Blender kicked up a notch. Serve up Pedal Powered Ice Cream and watch the community match unfold. From start to finish, each batch is an immersive activity that creates a lasting memory.

Great for events with kids, who will be fascinated with the mechanical workings and delighted with the tasty results. Kids as young as 10 can pedal the bike and handle the level of exertion required. Activate their minds and bodies as you combine local ingredients and their good clean Pedal Power with a positive message about energy conservation, fitness, and nutrition.  The whirring and stirring noises from the machine are pleasant and won’t get in the way of teaching moments, oohs and aahs. You’ll be nourishing them with calcium, too!

An Ice Cream Bike is a hit at events year-round, indoors or out. Fairs, concerts, conventions, gala dinners, trade shows, food cart gatherings, and summer camps — any crowded event is an opportunity to spin up a Sundae. You can even combine an Ice Cream bike with a bike blender for amazing milkshakes.  Satisfy the specialty dietary needs of your audience with low-fat alternatives like frozen yogurt or dairy-free recipes such as sorbet.  Team up with a local dairy, egg, or berry farm and you might find a low-cost or sponsored source of ingredients while and an opportunity to co-promote their foods. If you’re serious about doling out sweet treats at your event, the Ice Cream bike can pump out up to 4.5 gallons of ice cream an hour!

Pedal Powered Light Activities

The state of the art sLEDgehammer is a great way to show pedalers their power output and teach energy conservation. To light up the first six levels you need to hit 200 watts of effort. After that point pedalers can light up the 300 watts of traditional incandescent bulbs, then 150W more of halogens when a reward circuit comes on.

Similar to the classic sledgehammer game at carnivals and fairs, crowds will form to watch the display of human strength, and impromptu competitions may erupt. At 11′ tall it is visible across a wide space, so people from across a room or plaza will be able to see. Click here to watch it in action.

This Comparative Energy Board is another great educational tool about energy conservation. The large display demonstrates how much energy is required to power common electronics in the home. Feel the power needed to play video games or charge a cellphone as the LCDs and physical resistance demonstrate the energy required. You’ll be sure to send the message home with this interactive display.

Rock the Bike’s LED Stage Lighting Panels are another great way to get your audience involved. Throw light on the crowd and performers at your event. Give pedalers the chance to set the mood with unique color combinations. Perfect for events with DJs, but can be used for any nighttime event, including Mobile Performances.

The Pedal Powered Stage

Pedal Power music events, speeches and press conferences, or off-grid parties. Bands love playing on a Pedal Powered Stage because the audience is already moving at the beginning of their set. Organizations, towns, and cities love to speak through a Pedal Powered microphone to send a clear message about going green and the power within the community. Fans get to support the musicians or speakers and help contribute to the show.

Our Pedal Powered Stage gear is also great for school assemblies. Middle school students will be tall enough to pedal the assembly, while Elementary school students will enjoy watching.  Have an unforgettable assembly at your school while teaching students about physics, how energy is made, and the benefits of bicycling.

Sorbet is a delicious vegan treat with lower fat than traditional ice cream. Below you will find a no-cook recipe to make 1 gallon of Toasted Almond Sorbet. Depending on your serving sizes, you can serve anywhere between 128 1 oz. servings and 32 4 oz. servings.

Ingredients:

• 2 – 32 oz. cartons unsweetened coconut milk
• 2 quarts water
• 4 cups sugar (1 32 oz. bag)
• 5 Tbsp vanilla
• 9 – 8 oz. bags of toasted almonds (can also substitute 72 oz shredded unsweetened coconut)

The combined cost is roughly $40. If you sell 4 oz. servings at $4 each you could profit $88! If you use a cheaper nut than toasted almond, then you can cut your costs in half and increase profit to $100!

Additional Things You’ll Need:

A large spoon for mixing, serving bowls, ice, salt, and an ice cream scoop.

How To Make Sorbet:

Stir all ingredients together and pour into your pre-frosted canister (or pour into the canister and stir if you’re at an event). Secure the canister into the oak tub, and surround with ice and salt. Attach the slip-proof belt and begin to pedal your Ice Cream Bike for roughly 20 minutes until solidified. Serve immediately.
