I'm used to gel seats. That leather seat looks hard. Is it comfortable?
First of all, the cool kids in San Francisco call them 'saddles,' not 'seats'. Get with it! Just kidding. OK, so why is a leather seat / saddle more comfortable than a nice soft gel seat? First of all, leather is a natural material that breathes and molds to the shape of your body. Remember your little league baseball glove? How it broke in to your hand? It's kind of like that with the Brooks Saddle, but you don't have to stuff it in the freezer wrapped in chicken fat. The Brooks takes only a few rides before it conforms to your body.
Second, the Brooks is wide enough to support your sit bones, the part of your pelvis that supports you when you sit on a bench. And the leather floats on air when you ride, which keeps you cools and offers a freeer suspension when you ride. Think of it as a trampoline versus a foam mattress.
